2016: How It Went (Halloween)

Real Live Music!

Hello!
This year was pretty fun. I decided I would only give out candy— the first time I haven't trick-or-treated on Halloween ever, and it was surprisingly fun.
I play the harp, so I sat in the yard and played music whenever the trick-or-treaters came by. That was extremely fun.
Anyway, on with the review!

Halloween Night.
Recognition: 5/10

Well, they got the basic idea. I didn't get many guesses— there weren't many trick or treaters to guess— but the closest was probably "An Elf from Minecraft." Which, you know, kids these days (yes, I do say that ironically.) The other guess was "a Nymph" which is a little further off, so I'll go with the former as the closest. A lot of people (at least 3) wondered if I was real, and were really creeped out for some reason. Not my intention, but it was funny. :D

Strength: 10/10

Great. Everything was perfect, because it was sewn by someone else!

Comfort: 4/10

The outfit itself is very comfortable, aside from the wig pinching after a while (they tend to do that.) The real problem was with the fact that it was October, and I had assembled the costume in August, due to a trip to the UK my family and I were taking for the bulk of October. Anyway, my point is, it was cold. VERY cold. Mostly my hands were frozen, but that was a problem, because it made it hard to play the harp. So, not the best costume for cold weather. Maybe go with an elf-garb that has fur on it or something.

I'm not including candy this year, because A) it has nothing to do with the costume, and B) we bought our own candy this year because nobody was trick-or-treating in our house.

There were more people in costume this year from what I could tell, so that's good. It always makes me a little annoyed when they don't dress up.  Anyway, it was a good year.

Happy Halloween!
(Also 5th of November. Remember, remember the 5th of November... ahem.)

Silvan Elf: Finished!

Fall is here!
Hi!

So I actually bought a dress and ditched the whole pajama thing, which I'm happy I did, even though it cost me $30, which made this costume cost much more than I wanted it to, but at least it looks good, heh heh!

This photoshoot was not so big and long as the Ciel one was, since this costume isn't as much of a big deal, but I figured I'd post some pictures anyway, because I like elves.

You can check out more photos on my DeviantArt page. Link in the "Welcome" bar!

HAPPY Halloween!

Silvan Elf: The Wreath and Dress Base

The wreath.
I made the crown/wreath! I used fake foliage and flowers from Michaels, but you can basically find this kind of thing in any large craft store. I actually found a ready-made circle of fake leaves, so I just tied or weaved the other flowers into it using their stems, which sometimes had wire in it, or in the case of the flowers, I pulled them off the stems and tied them on using the leaves, which I also pulled off the stem.

Also, if you want to use real flowers, that's wonderful, if not better! I was just lazy.

The shirt of the pajamas. (Excuse the
bad photo, I didn't have a camera
so I used my computer webcam. :P)
I also got a velvet pajama set for the dress that needs a lot of work because it has pants that need to be turned into a skirt as well as it being two separate pieces instead of just one, but I liked the fabric and it was cheap. I might continue looking to see if there's anything better, but I think it'll
do.

Other details I got/have include ribbon for the sash and a pin that I may or may not be using in the costume.

That's all for now!

Silvan Elf: The Ears

Got the ears!

Hi!

I just got the ears and I'm very happy with them. They match my skin color almost exactly and are a bit translucent, so they look fairly realistic. I got them at my local costume store.

In the picture I'm wearing the wig I'll be wearing -- it's the same one we used for Undertaker, which saved some money, haha.

I'll also try to look for a dress today. I'm thinking of getting a long velvet dress that's pretty plain so I can decorate it, but if I find something better, then I'll do that. It's a very different approach from most of my costumes.

That's it for today.

2016's Costume: Tolkien Elf

Hello!

I was going to be Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa, but then I decided that I'd rather be an Elf, because I recently (this year) got really into the Lord of the Rings movies, and now I'm reading the books, and part of me has always wanted elf ears.

So now I'm going to be an Elf!
A Silvan Elf, to be exact, from Mirkwood. No specific character, which is new for this blog! Yay! Milestone!

Obviously I don't have any pictures yet to show what I'm going for, but hopefully I'll have some sketches nearer to when Halloween is. I'm planning on being thrifty for this costume, so I'll most likely just look around Salvation Army until something strikes my fancy. I do have a nice idea for a crown involving plastic foliage and flowers, though, so that's something.

Anyway, that's my announcement.

Happy Halloween!

2016's Costume: Junko Enoshima

Ahahahahahahahaaaa!
Hi!
I'm a little late this year in deciding (Whoa! It's almost March!), but I've finally picked my next costume, and I'm kinda excited:
Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa!
It's a fairly simple costume, and I already have some of the pieces, and that's good because I don't want to spend so much money this year on costumes.
I think the hardest thing I'll need to get is either the wig, as it is a strange shade, has high pigtails, and has a tendency to sell for over $30, or the over-shirt, which will be a black shirt that I'll need to alter a lot.
More updates coming soon!
Or not so soon.
Probably not so soon.
